Half-Marathon Training
R E G I S T E R   N O W P R I N T A B L E   A P P

Join our TeamFootWorks Half Marathon Training Program (13.1 mile) for a memorable experience that will change your life and how you view your health & fitness. Every year, individuals who thought they couldn’t run or walk 2 or 3 miles, let alone 13.1, learn that they CAN DO IT!!

The long runs or walks will be done on Saturdays with your training team. Teams are led by 2-3 veteran runners. You will be amazed how quickly the time and miles melt away running or walking with your training team. The energy is contagious and the friendships you develop will be well worth the early wake up calls!!

Each program starts with a 30 minute orientation and then a 30 minute run/walk. Following the Run-Walk Method, you only have to concentrate on the next 2-6 minutes of running and a 1-minute walk break. We offer several different pace groups for people of every ability and speed, even WALKERS! We will also have one pace group RUNNING the Miami Half. This group of experienced runners will take little to no walk breaks. We aim to finish by 8:00am, therefore as the distances increase, training may begin as early as 5:00am.

While the long runs and walks develop your ability to go the distance, it is the weekly running and cross-training that will take you to another level of health and fitness. During the week you are responsible for two short runs or walks of no more than 60 minutes. FootWorks South Miami hosts our weekly runs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30pm and FootWorks South Beach hosts our Tuesday night run at 7:00pm to keep your training on schedule.

I would be a new member but wont be able available for the first run on the 4th. Can I still join even if my availability to start isn’t until the second weekend the 11th?

Hi Karen, yes of course you can. Many participants, especially those that have been running already, skip the first few weeks while we catch up the beginners. We do 30 minutes the first Saturday and 40 or 45 on the second. For many participants, they see this as “too short” and do their longer runs on their own until we start getting into the 5 and 6 mile range.

    Hello –

I’m interested in signing up for the training along with my boyfriend. I don’t have a sitter on the weekends so I would need to take my daughter in a jogging stroller for the training. Would this be an issue? For the marathons I leave her with a sitter but I won’t be able to find someone to watch her every Saturday @ 5 AM.

Saturday morning schedules are unpredictable for my family as our kids are involved in sports leagues. Do you always begin at 6:30 am? What time do you typically finish?

We aim to finish training by 7:30am each Saturday. There may be a couple towards the end that might not be done at that time.

Hello: I am barely a walker, much less a runner and I am concerned with keeping up… how does the training begin/go?

Hi Nik! I’d recommend coming to our info training session. Our next one is Oct 2 Thursday at 6:30pm. Half training starts Oct 4th. Martha is our walker leader and she’s amazing. She’s walked countless of half marathons. I think she’s done at least 12. We all start somewhere and she understands that. Martha is out of the office until tomorrow afternoon but her partner in crime Karen is here. Call 305.666.7223 and chat with either one!

    Hi,

How much running is required or recommended outside of every Saturday? I imagine that’s not enough, once a week.

    Thank you,

Hi Joely, there will be two short weekly runs that are time based. You’ll start with 15/20 minutes and increase to 60 during training. These can be done at FootWorks South Miami on Tuesday and Thursday nights or on your own. Being time based makes it easy to know how far to go.

I would like to join but will be busy with work the first two weeks. May I still sign up as first time after the 11th? Or do you have winter or spring training dates available?
    Thank you

The program starts gradually with a 20 minute and then a 30 minute run/walk the first two Saturdays. Skipping the first couple of weeks won’t be a problem as long as you’re doing these short runs on your own.

Hi cythia. The Saturday long runs will mostly start in South Miami and will eventually run through the grove. Mile 4 is just after the turn on main and Douglas. Mile 5 is St Stephen church. 6 is Kennedy, and the furthest you may go is mercy.
