Burger King Beach Run

Burger King Beach Run
We are working on the results for the BurgerKing 5K & 10K.

Putting on special events is extremely hard. There are a lot of moving parts and we depend on volunteers, police, and city officials to get the job done.

Today TeamFootWorks is to blame for not guiding you on the correct course. We are only human after all. We went straight to South Pointe Park for the turn-around instead of turning right at 10th Street to do a half mile loop on the street. It appears everyone running the 5k ran about a half mile short. This is the reason for your great finishing times out there today. It has been brought to our attention that a few of you (maybe 20 or so) had studied the course map and realized you didn’t do the loop at the beginning so you ran it after going to South Pointe park. Our timing company is working on the results and we will have a separate showing for those few and order medals for them accordingly. There seems to be no way of combining those times with the people who raced the shorter course. We will be giving out the medals for the 5K (which was only 2.5 miles) and will post the times as soon as possible.

Some of you running the 10K were also sent to the finish line instead of turning left on 10th to run on the sidewalk and go north to complete the 10K distance. Those that we determined ran the shortened 5K distance were moved into the 4K category and scored accordingly. The remainder were scored in the 10K category.

The Huseby Family has be putting on races for the last 42 years. We started the Miami Runners Club in our living room in 1977. Of the more than 400 races we have produced, there has only been a handful when something like this has happened with the course. No one feels as bad about it as we do. We are truly sorry.

We commit to implementing more signage and a course marshal to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Thank you for your understanding
Laurie & JP Huseby and our amazing TEAMFOOTWORKS TEAM!

Hi, I want to know if there is a part of the race over the sand of the beach. I am asking because I would like to run with my son stroller but if there is a segment f the race in sand, it will be impossible.

Hello! Part of the course is on the sand. We run on the sand from about 11th to 10th, then off the sand to run on the street for a segment. Then back on the sand from 10th to 5th. On the return, you would run from 5th to 11th on the sand. This section is where the sand is “hardpack”. You are able to ride bike on this section of sand so I imagine a jogging stroller would be ok.
