Choose TeamFootWorks to be your training partner for the Halloween Half Marathon and you can run with Ghouls, Witches, Ghosts, and Goblins on South Beach. This race combines Halloween and running into one fun, energetic event. Participants run in costume and compete in categories such as Superhero, Villain, Scary, Funny, Underwear, and WTF! Although it’s not mandatory to run in costume, we strongly urge you and your pace team to do it! It’s best is to dress up the whole team in one theme like a Mad Hatter Party or a 3 Ring Circus. All finishers, costumed or not, will receive a special Halloween Themed medal. This year’s medal features the Headless Horseman.

The TeamFootWorks Halloween Half Marathon Training Program will prepare you to cover the 13.1 mile distance with ease. Every year, individuals who thought they couldn’t run or walk 2 or 3 miles, let alone 13.1, learn that they CAN DO IT!! The secret ingredient are intervals. With interval training, the miles are divided into short manageable segments where you’ll run for just 2 to 5 minutes. After each segment, a 1 minute walk break awaits! This break allows you to recover, catch your breath, hydrate, and regroup while you prepare for the next segment. With interval training, you’re not running 13.1 miles but rather for just the next segment.

Each of our training programs start with a brief orientation and a 30 minute run/walk. We offer several different pace groups for people of every ability and speed, even WALKERS! We aim to finish training by 8:00am, therefore as the distances increase, training may begin as early as 5:00am.

Long runs are essential in any endurance training program. The long runs or walks will be done on Saturdays with your training team. Teams are led by 2-3 veteran runners. You will be amazed how quickly the time and miles melt away running or walking with your training team. The energy is contagious and the friendships you develop will be well worth the early wake up calls!!

While the long runs and walks develop your ability to go the distance, it is the weekly running and cross-training that will take you to another level of health and fitness. During the week you are responsible for two short runs or walks of no more than 60 minutes. FootWorks South Miami hosts our weekly fun runs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30pm and FootWorks South Beach hosts our Tuesday night fun run at 7:00pm to keep your training on schedule.

Most of the long runs for the South Miami program will start from South Miami Hospital’s Adult Education Center. Thanks to South Miami Hospital, we are able to offer our runners:

  • Free covered parking in the Visitor Garage located on the left when entering via 62nd Ave
  • Indoor bathroom and changing facilities
  • Classrooms for group stretching and speakers
